Things not to do in a drop year | Sciastra

Results are out, and some of you might have scored well and will get into your dream colleges, some will get good college, even if not of their dreams. Some of you will be taking a drop or a partial drop. But this time is full of confusion and a lot of random advice all over the internet. Students get totally confused during this phase and cannot decide whether they should drop a year for their dream college or not. If you want to decide whether to take a drop year or not, this blog could be useful. And if you have decided to take a drop, it is very crucial that you know what things you should NOT do.

Addictions:

You must not get addicted to anything this year, not even studies. You must not involve yourself in social media, watching movies, playing games, wasting time with friends, partying, etc. There are a lot of ways you could get distracted, and if you continue to do that, this drop year will pass away, and you won’t even realise it. Constantly studying can also ruin your mind and health, hence, take necessary breaks and do useful things like yoga, taking a nap, talking to family members or a few good friends.

Procrastination:

Most of us have a habit of procrastinating things. But you can’t afford to procrastinate things now. This can cost you your drop year as well as your dream college. Make a schedule and stick to that at any cost. Don’t let your mind convince you not to do that. Leaving unfinished lectures, sheets, or questions to the next day becomes a habit, and gradually you will be skipping mock tests and other important sessions, which will eventually degrade your progress.

Relationships:

This isn’t entirely about teenage romance but about relationships with your family members as well. A drop year is not an easy time, and you must be mentally prepared for it. Many times, your family members and your relatives doubt you and taunt you regarding your scores. You must not indulge in such conversations, and don’t let such things overpower you.

Keep supportive relatives, friends or teachers close to you, but don’t waste time unnecessarily talking to them. It is a crucial time of your life, and they should understand its importance. You can always contact your SciAstra mentors with any self-doubt or problem.

Questions and Mocks:

Assuming you have already prepared for earlier, it is time for you to practice solving questions and test papers. Theory alone will not lead you anywhere if you cannot solve questions. Refer to chapters in which you are not able to solve questions. A strong foundation is necessary, but rigorous practice of difficult questions is also equally essential. Don’t seek out the solution of questions without trying it at least 5-10 times.

Not in touch with reality:

This is mainly for online drop students; they must go outside their house for just a walk or run or to play games and be aware of what is happening around them. Don’t be over-optimistic about your prep; don’t be disheartened by the competition around you.

Not having a schedule:

You have almost 7 months to cover 3 subjects, do almost 100 questions from each chapter and give four to eight mocks in a month. You must follow your schedule strictly to avoid missing out on any concept or mock. This will also prevent you from backlogs and panicking at the last moment. If you are not able to make a schedule for yourself, reach out to your teachers for help.

The Vikram 1.0 Batch 2025 includes revision sessions for 11th-grade concepts integrated with the 12th-grade syllabus, ensuring you stay on top of your studies. Standard textbooks like NCERT usually are not enough. Instead, use SciAstra’s IAT Preparation Book.
