Romita Ghosh: Health Entrepreneur and Founder of MedSamaan

From a 12-year-old girl surviving blood cancer to becoming the most recognized Health Entrepreneur, her journey is truly a game changer in the Indian health industry. Romita Ghosh, Founder and CEO of MedSamaan, had impacted the lives of more than 2,500 patients, and won nine awards within one year of inception of her startup, making healthcare affordable to all.

In the year 1998, a cheerful 9th-grade student, got sick with constant fever. After a year of tests, she was diagnosed with blood cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma). Despite her exams in 10th grade, she had to go to Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai for treatment.

For two tough years, Romita Ghosh faced chemotherapy and medicines but eventually entered remission. Although she lost a year of studies, she finished her education while traveling between Lucknow and Mumbai for treatment

Seeing the financial struggles of other cancer patients at Tata Memorial Hospital, Romita Ghosh decided to focus on cancer research after her exams, wanting to make a positive impact in the field.

Growing up, Romita Ghosh was fascinated by biology and computers, becoming skilled in both. At just 12, she taught herself coding, launching her first website using HTML.

She pursued double majors in biotechnology and biochemistry, followed by an MBA in biotech management. During her studies, Romita developed a keen interest in translational research, focusing on cancer biology.

In 2009, she embarked on her entrepreneurial journey with D’lights, a successful LED and CFL importing and manufacturing startup based in Bengaluru.

However, she wanted to do something in medicine. Driven by her passion for healthcare, founded Admirus in 2011. Initially managing various roles, including managing director, business development manager, accountant, and sales representative, she gradually built a dedicated team.

Admirus became a recognized company, receiving invitations from embassies to assist in launching healthcare products in India.

While working on Admirus, Romita identified significant gaps in the medical device sector, such as expensive products, high import dependence, and limited availability.

Reflecting on her own battle with cancer, she aimed to make healthcare more accessible. This vision led to her fourth startup, iHeal HealthTech, and the launch of MedSamaan.

This online platform showcases the latest medical devices from domestic and international manufacturers, ensuring stringent quality control.

Within one year of inception, her startup MedSamaan impacted the lives of more than 2,500 patients, and won nine awards in the process.

Romita’s story shows how dedicated she is to bringing hope in the field of healthcare.
