This is the story of a mother, an IT engineer who became a self taught neurology enthusiast and devised a life saving smart glove that predicts epileptic seizures to save her son’s life -Rajlakshmi Borthakur.
It is rightly said that a mother’s love can drive her to extraordinary lengths to help her child. Living in constant fear, she never knew when the next seizure would strike. And neither did the doctors.
Such is the story of @Rajlakshmi Borthakur, whose son Tejas faced a challenging health issue. Tejas was born in 2011, but his life took a difficult turn as he began experiencing epileptic seizures at a young age. While he seemed stable at birth, his condition quickly worsened, leading to full-blown seizures that demanded immediate medical attention.
As a devoted parent and primary caregiver, Rajlakshmi Borthakur seeing her son suffer, couldn’t stand idly by, and her maternal instinct pushed her to seek a solution.
With a clear vision in her mind, she set out to create a prototype that could identify epilepsy episodes before they became severe.
Rajlakshmi Borthakur, an IT engineer by profession, became a self-taught expert in neurology to understand her son’s condition better. She started reading papers, journals and medical books on neurology. With some knowledge on how the brain works, and her fair understanding in electronics, she came up with a concept.
She enlisted the help of a dedicated team of individuals who shared her passion for improving the lives of people living with epilepsy. Together, they created T Jay, an early epilepsy-attack detection device.
This small group of like-minded individuals came together under the banner of @Terrablue XT, a company committed to innovating accessible healthcare solutions.
Convincing doctors that a worried mother could have a real solution to something as complex as epilepsy wasn’t easy, but she refused to give up. The road was paved with doubts and skepticism, especially since she came from a non-medical background.
Years of tireless research and determination led her to establish Terrablue XT in 2016.
Her project was among the top three out of 1,900 startups, marking a significant milestone in her journey. In 2017, she received the Women Transforming India Award, a testament to her unwavering commitment.
Today, Rajlakshmi Borthakur and her team continue their mission with the development of another innovative wearable device called Xaant. This device aims to measure both physical and mental health, with the goal of identifying an individual’s calmness levels.
