- How to Strengthen Your IAT Preparation?
Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced:
JEE Advanced is one of the most difficult exams for science students for entrance to IITs IISc. It is regarded as one of the toughest exam in India. Until 2024, IISERs used to accept JEE Advanced scores for admission. However, IISERs are not taking admission through the JEE Advanced stream from this year onwards. Hence, JEE is no longer a mode of entrance to IISERs.
Eligibility Criteria for SCB (IAT):
State and Central Boards (SCB) is a mode of entrance to IISERs and is regarded as the easiest mode to get into IISERs. It is based on class 12th board exam marks, and students with the eligibility criteria must appear for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) to get admission to IISERs. The eligibility criteria for the SCB channel are given below:
- Candidates must have passed the class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board of Education of India in the years 2024, 2023 and 2022. Hence, second droppers are also allowed.
- Candidates still appearing in the class 12 examination are also eligible to apply. In such a case, the candidates must submit proof of passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission. For general candidates, the cutoff is 60% marks.
- Nationality – Foreign and Indian nationals, including OCI (Overseas Citizens India)/PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cardholders.
- The cut-off that the candidate for IISER 2024 admissions must meet will be released on IAT official website.
- The candidates applying through this channel must appear mandatorily for the IISER Aptitude Test 2024. The cutoff marks for the exam is usually 110-120. However, you must aim for over 150 to get the IISER of your first preference.
Eligibility Criteria for KVPY:
KVPY was an entrance mode to IISERs but was discontinued last year. Hence, you can get admission to IISERs through only two streams. From 2024 onwards, there won’t be any admission through KVPY. The seats that were allotted for KVPY will now be allotted to IAT since the JEE Advanced is also not accepted by IISERs
Seats Reservations:
The reservation policies, as mandated by the government of India, are applied in determining the seat matrix. The same for the year 2024 is given below:
- Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats
- Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats
- Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) – 27% of seats
- Persons with Disability (PwD) with at least 40% impairment – 5% of seats (supernumerary)
- Kashmiri Migrants — 3 seats per IISER (supernumerary)
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) — up to 10% (as per Government of India rules)
How to Strengthen Your IAT Preparation?
Since the IAT is the only mode of admission to IISERs this year, you must prepare well for the exam. The IAT is a little bit more difficult than the JEE Mains, which you can crack through consistent revision, practising problems, giving mock tests and analysing them. SciAstra can prove to be your best friend in this journey by providing relevant lectures, free PYQs, mock tests, notes on important topics, and, most importantly, personalised mentorships.
Conclusion:
IISERs are the top research institutes in India, and getting into them opens many opportunities. The eligibility criteria for admission are simply class 12 marks and an entrance exam like IAT. You can smoothen your preparation by consistently studying and revising your syllabus. If you need any help in preparations or queries regarding admission processes, SciAstra has your solutions.
