Are you preparing for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2024? With IAT scheduled on 9th June 2024, there is only a little time left for the exam. If you are giving your board exams, you will get to continue your preparation by April. In that case, it becomes essential to know how you can prepare for IAT in very little time and what topics are important and what you can skip.
In this blog, we will discuss:
- How difficult will IAT 2024 be?
- IAT 2024 preparation strategies
- Important topics for IAT 2024
How Difficult will IAT 2024 be?
IAT 2024 is scheduled for 9th June 2024. The exam is the only mode of entrance to IISERs for this year. Along with this, it will also serve as an entrance exam for IISc and IIT Madras. Clearly, the value of IAT has increased drastically in recent years. The number of students taking the IAT also increases every year. Hence, we can expect the difficulty level of the exam to increase a bit this year.
However, the exam will not touch the NEST or JEE Advanced level. You can expect the level of IAT 2024 to be around the hardest session of JEE Mains 2024. The exam pattern will remain the same as in previous years. Hence, you don’t need to worry about the new format. You only need to work consistently and practice well for IAT 2024.
IAT 2024 preparation strategies:
Now that your board exams are over and you have about one to two months in hand, you must dedicate yourself completely to IAT preparation. Your entrance to your dream college depends on how and what you do in these two months. Here are a few preparation strategies you can implement for a smoother preparation:
- Make a schedule: You must have a schedule. The remaining time is very precious, and you can’t afford to waste it doing unnecessary things. Hence, prepare a timetable for what you should do every day, analyse your performance every week, and change your timetable if needed. Following a schedule is harder than preparing it. Hence, you should remain dedicated and focused and follow the schedule for better results.
- Refresh yourself: Do not forget to refresh yourself by taking short breaks. You are not a machine and should not work continuously for hours without breaks. Taking proper breaks is important to have good results in preparation and exams.
- Syllabus: You must know what is the exact syllabus for the exam and how much you are conifdent in. Divide time to revision and learning new topics proportionally. However, we don’t recommend that you learn new things if there is not much time, but you can surely go for short topics, especially in biology.
- Mock Tests: As the exam approaches, increase the frequency of giving mock tests. Solve at least two mock tests in a week and analyse them properly. Do not forget to attempt mock tests in a complete exam environment so that you can get accustomed to it. It will help you increase your confidence in your preparations. You can seek help from your mentors from SciAstra to analyse your performance in mock tests.
- Revision: Our past years’ performers have shared the most important factor in their success: revision. You can not perform well without proper and regular revision. Give at least 3-4 hours for revision every day. Physics and biology have relatively lower topics than maths and chemistry. Hence, you can divide your schedule depending on what topics you need to study more.
- PYQs: Do not forget to solve the previous year questions. Every year, some questions get repeated in one way or another. Also, revise your mistakes well.
- Study Material: Maintain a diary of your mistakes in mock tests and problem practices. Keep revising it to know ‘what not to do’. Join SciAstra courses. We provide sufficient materials like PYQs, Mock Tests, notes for the important topics in all 4 subjects, lectures, and, most importantly, one-to-one mentorship to each and every student.
Important Topics for IAT 2024:
Mathematics: Make time for practice to enhance your ability to solve mathematical problems. It takes consistent practice to grasp mathematical concepts. Set algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry as your top priorities because these subjects are frequently covered in the test. Give these subjects more time to ensure that you understand them completely.
Physics: Gain a strong foundation by comprehending physics’s fundamental ideas and theories. Concentrate on developing conceptual clarity to tackle a range of numerical problems confidently. You must practice solving numerical problems a lot if you want to improve your understanding of physics.
Chemistry: If you want to study chemistry from all angles, divide it up into three categories: organic, inorganic, and physical. Fundamental ideas like the periodic table, chemical bonds, reactions, and equilibrium should all be carefully considered. To strengthen your comprehension, practice balancing chemical equations and resolving numerical issues.
Biology: Create a well-organized study schedule that addresses the fundamental subjects of biology, such as genetics, cell biology, ecology, and evolution. Make sure you give each topic enough time to be understood in-depth. Use visual aids to help with conceptualisation and memorisation, such as flowcharts, diagrams, and mnemonic devices. These resources can help people understand and remember difficult biological concepts.
Conclusion:
With the correct guidance, hard work and dedication, you can clear your IAT in 1 month. Though it may seem difficult, our students have done so in previous years. You should not worry about being from the PCB or PCM stream; giving even one hour daily to the fourth subject will easily ace the exam. Follow the strategy provided above and add your methodologies as well. Trust yourself, work consistently, and you will get your dream college in a few months. We wish you all the best!
