Students who have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in their qualifying examination are generally not eligible for admission to undergraduate programs at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
PCB students preparing for the IISER Aptitude Test’s Mathematics section should focus on key concepts rather than mastering the entire syllabus. The candidate must also qualify for one of the following national-level entrance examinations:
1. IISER Aptitude test (IAT)-
IAT is a new and exciting opportunity for students who want to pursue science education at the prestigious IISERs, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras. To apply through this channel, you need to register on the IISc admission portal and take the computer-based IAT exam. The test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, with a duration of 180 minutes. The test is usually held in June every year at various centres across India. Last year candidates must have scored 210+ marks to get admission into IISc in the general category.
2. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-
- JEE Main is for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at various institutions, including IISc, NITs, IIITs, and other institutions.
- The test is held in 2 sessions every year, one in January and another one in April.
- Students need to excel in JEE Main and be among the top 2.5 lakh candidates to be eligible for JEE Advanced.
- Upon successfully clearing JEE Advanced and securing a position within the top 10,000 candidates in the Common Rank List (CRL), candidates can apply for engineering programs at IISc.
- However, the usual cutoff for IISc admission under the general category through JEE Mains tends to be around the 90 to 95 percentile.
3. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced-
- A computer-based test conducted by one of the IITs is specifically for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at IITs and other institutes.
- Securing a position within the top 10,000 candidates in the CRL of JEE Advanced is crucial for gaining eligibility to apply for engineering courses at IISc.
- The overall cutoff for JEE-Advanced spans from rank 351 to 7531. Specifically, a rank of 351 secures you a spot for B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing, while a rank of 7531 opens the door to the BSc program.

4. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG-
- NEET UG is the entrance exam conducted for admission to undergraduate medical, dental, and AYUSH programs at various institutions.
- To get into IISc through NEET, you can pursue undergraduate programs related to life sciences or related fields.
- Once you qualify for NEET and secure a rank within the top 10,000 candidates in the All India Rank (AIR), only then can you apply for BSc. (Research) program at IISc.
- You need to have scored a minimum of 60% in NEET if you belong to the General category.

The admission to IISc after the 12th is based on the merit list prepared by considering 60% weightage to the performance in one of the above entrance examinations and 40% weightage to the normalized 12th standard (or equivalent) board marks.

How to apply for admission to IISc after the 12th?
- The application process for admission to IISc after the 12th is online, and the candidates have to fill out the online application form available on the official website of IISc (www.iisc.ac.in).
- The application fee is Rs. 500 for General/OBC/EWS candidates and Rs. 250 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. According to the information I found, IISc Bangalore also reserves 20% Supernumerary Quota for female candidates.
- The candidates have to upload their scanned photograph, signature, and relevant documents (such as 10th and 12th mark sheets, category certificates, etc.) along with the application form.
- The candidates have to select their preferred entrance examination (IAT, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, or NEET-UG) and enter their corresponding registration number and score.
- The candidates can also indicate their choice of specialization, but this is not binding and can be changed later. The candidates have to submit the application form before the last date, which is usually in April.
