Dr. Tathagato Rai Dastidar: Founder of SigTuple

Driven by the tragic loss of his father due to a delay caused by misdiagnosis, this scientist achieved the remarkable feat of creating a device that swiftly unravels disease mysteries in less than a minute SigTuple.

@Dr. Tathagato Rai Dastidar, who holds 11 United States patents, is the founder of Bengaluru medtech startup @SigTuple, which automates the manual microscopic review of biological samples using artificial intelligence (AI) for faster turnaround time for patients, making the lives of pathologists easier.

Born into a family where science was not just a subject but a way of life, Dr. Dastidar’s parents, both professors at the @Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, instilled in him an early fascination with the world of science and technology.

Fuelled by his love for science and technology, Dr. Dastidar set his sights on the prestigious @Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. There, he pursued his BTech and PhD in computer science and engineering.

In 2000, tragedy struck when Dr. Dastidar’s father, diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, faced a devastating delay in treatment due to misdiagnosis. This loss left him devastated, setting him on a new path in life.

Driven by the memory of his father and a burning desire to prevent others from suffering a similar fate, Dr. Dastidar embarked on a mission. For over a decade and a half, alongside his demanding tech career, he worked tirelessly to find a solution to the problem of medical misdiagnosis.

In 2015, his efforts culminated in the founding of SigTuple, a pioneering company aimed at revolutionizing pathology through the integration of robotics and advanced AI.

SigTuple’s mission was clear: to harness the power of artificial intelligence for early screening and diagnosis, particularly in underserved regions where access to quality healthcare was limited.

The statistics were staggering, with a single pathologist serving a population of over 65,000 people in some areas. SigTuple’s focus lay in automating the labor-intensive and error-prone manual microscopic review process, primarily for blood and urine microscopy.

The core innovation at SigTuple was the development of AI100, a groundbreaking device that transformed the diagnostic process. This sophisticated machine automatically captured high-magnification microscopic images of the relevant portions of the slide, which were then uploaded to a cloud platform for analysis.

SigTuple continues to develop cutting-edge solutions that address real clinical challenges, with a focus on expanding their commercial presence, both in India and internationally.
