What are the minimum eligibility criteria for IISc UG programs?
- Minimum Grades:
- Secure at least 60% in 12th standard.
- SC/ST candidates only need to pass class 12th.
- Required Subjects:
- Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) are MUST in 12th.
- You can have additional subjects like Biology, but PCM is compulsory.
- Entrance Exams:
- You must clear the cut-off score in prescribed national entrance exams (details depend on program).
Once you meet the above requirement, you need to qualify for a cut-off in a national-level exam that is released every year.
IISc accepts scores for the following national-level exams for admission into the BS program:
- JEE Mains
- JEE Advance
- NEET-UG
- IAT
For the admission into the B.Tech. The program, Indian Institute of Science only accepts the scores of JEE Advanced. Note that Mathematics is necessary in class 12th even if you are using the NEET channel for the admission into both B.Tech. and B.S. Programmes.

So, Can I Get Admission Through JEE Mains Only?
As mentioned above, you can get admission into the BS program through the JEE Mains channel but not in the B. Tech. programme.
The number of seats for candidates seeking admission through JEE Mains channel or any other channel has not been specified by IISc. But the cut off rank is generally within 400 for General. This makes the admission very difficult and competitive.
If we look at the cut-off rank for other channels, it is the same (around 360 for General). Hence, it becomes difficult to decide which channel is easier. The IISc generally has adopted the policy of admitting students who are top rankers in different national level exams. Since JEE Mains is easier than advanced, it might be easy to achieve the cut-off rank through JEE mains compared to JEE Advanced.
How to prepare for IISc through JEE Mains?
