- The NEST exam includes 4 sections: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
- Each section has 20 questions with one correct answer, and answering correctly earns 3 marks.
- Choosing an incorrect answer will result in a deduction of 1 mark, and not answering a question will not result in any deduction.
- The merit list will be based on the best three scores out of the four sections, and the lowest score will not be considered.
- The exam is computer-based, and applicants are encouraged to practice using a mock test link before the exam date.
- The language of the question paper will be in Hindi and English, and in case of any confusion, the question paper in English will be considered the standard one.

Merit List Preparation:
NEST merit list is prepared based on the following points.
- Scoring System:
- The NEST 2024 exam has four sections, each worth 60 marks.
- Percentile scores are calculated based on performance in each session.
- Only the best three scores out of four sections are considered for the merit list.
- Total marks considered for merit calculation are 180.
- Section-wise Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS):
- SMAS is the minimum score required in each section.
- It’s determined as 20% of the average of the best 100 scores in that section.
- SMAS can vary for different sections and sessions.
- SMAS for OBC students is 90% of that for general category, and for SC/ST/Divyangjan, it’s 50%.
- Overall Cut-off or Minimum Admissible Percentile (MAP):
- It’s the minimum percentile required for merit ranking.
- MAP is 95 for general, 90 for OBC, and 75 for SC/ST/Divyangjan candidates.
- Scoring below MAP disqualifies from merit ranking, even if SMAS is met.
- Merit List Rank Preparation:
- Final ranking is based on percentile scores from the best three sections.
- A candidate must score above SMAS in at least three sections to qualify.
- The total score is the sum of scores from the qualifying sections.
- In case of a tie, comparison starts from section scores, then moves to class 12th marks and age.
- Admission:
- Meeting SMAS and MAP doesn’t guarantee admission.
- Further details about admission/counselling will be provided on the website.
Syllabus:
NEST syllabus generally follows the class XI and XII NCERT. Detailed syllabus for each subject (Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics) is given on the NEST Website [::::NEST:::: (nestexam.in)]. Detailed syllabus is also present on our SciAstra app. It should be noted that the NCERT is not enough for the NEST. Hence, explore the courses offered by SciAstra to strengthen your chances of cracking NEST.
