  • Integrated BS+MS: This is a 5-year dual degree program in which you will get a master’s degree after 5 years. It is provided in the following subjects: Biology Sciences, Chemical Science, Planetary and Earth Science, Mathematical Science, and Physical Science. The fee for first-year students is Rs. 26,750.
  • Integrated MSc + PhD: This is an integrated program for master’s students who aim to pursue a PhD. It is provided in the following subjects: Biology Sciences, Chemical Science, Planetary and Earth Science, Mathematical Science, and Physical Science. The fee for first-year students is Rs. 26,750.
  • PhD: PhD at NISER usually lasts 5 years but can vary depending upon field of research, supervisor and other factors. PhD program is provided in the following subjects: Computer Science, Earth and Planetary Science, Mathematical Science, Physical Science, Biology Science, and Chemical Science. The fee for the first-year students is Rs. 22,000.

After getting admission to NISER in the 5-year integrated MSc course, you are eligible for an annual scholarship of Rs 60,000 through the DISHA program of the Department of Atomic Energy and INSPIRE program by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Additionally, recipients receive a grant of Rs 20,000 per annum for the summer internship. To know detailed information about the fee structure at NISER, check out this blog.

Entrance Exams and Cutoffs:

The entrance mode to each course is different. The entrance exams and cutoffs are given below:

  • Integrated MSc: NEST (National Entrance Screening Test) is an entrance exam for admission to the undergraduate program. The cutoff marks for NEST is usually 80-90 for the general and EWS categories, while less than that for other categories. Check out this blog to know more about cutoffs of NISER.
  • Integrated MSc- PhD: Admission to this program is based on the IIT’s JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test) or JAM (Joint Admission Test) entrance examination. The cutoffs are not revealed by NISER, but from speculation, cutoff marks can be 27. If the admission panel finds your application interesting, they will inform you regarding your admission.
  • PhD: Admission to PhD programmes is based on overall performance and marks received in any of the National Level Eligibility Tests such as NET, ICMR, ICAR, DBT, and GATE. The shortlisted candidates are asked to appear for a group discussion and a personal interview. After analysing your performance in interviews and examinations, your selection status will be emailed to you.

Placements:

NISER does not conduct traditional campus placements like engineering or management institutes; it provides ample support and guidance to students seeking employment or further education. The institute has a dedicated placement cell that facilitates connections between students and potential employers. This placement cell was established in 2021.

Research is at the core of NISER’s mission, and the institute offers numerous opportunities for students to pursue their scientific interests. Upon graduation, students can undertake research projects in collaboration with esteemed faculty members or pursue higher studies in renowned research institutions in India and abroad. NISER students have unique opportunities to contribute to defence research through internships, research projects, and collaborations with DRDO. The government agencies like BARC and DRDO actively recruit NISER students.
